Samuel Oliver-Bruno is awaiting deportation orders at a detention center in Georgia. Meanwhile, his wife and son are still in the Triangle. Hundreds of supporters gathered for a rally for him Tuesday.

Oliver-Bruno sought sanctuary in a Durham church for nearly a year to try and take care of his wife and son. When he left to begin the process to become a legal citizen of the United States, ICE agents arrested him.

His son says his mother is struggling without him.

"She's really sick. Her health condition got worse after Friday. Tomorrow we're going to take her to the hospital. She doesn't feel well and we're going to see what the doctor tells us," said Daniel Oliver Perez.

An ICE spokesperson says Bruno is not getting an appeal in this case because he broke the law when he first entered the country in 2014 by providing fraudulent documentation.

The spokesperson says, as of now, he is still in the United States but he cannot stay.
