Officials call it both a new transportation hub and a destination in and of itself. The transformation of Delta's Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport was officially unveiled Wednesday.

“This forever will be a point of pride for all New Yorkers because its a symbol of our resiliency,” said Gov. Kathy Hochul, on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony for a project that began six years ago under her predecessor.

The $4 billion project was was funded by Delta airlines and the Port Authority. The new terminal facility spans 1.3 million square feet and has 37 gates across four concourses. In order to make room for the state of the art facility, Terminals C and D were consolidated into a single venue.

Terminal C now features 49 self service kiosks, curated artwork, and a variety of restaurants, including an outpost of popular Tribeca hotspot Bubby’s Diner.

“We are working with over 50 local purveyors. Not only does it have a local feel but it adds local flavors,” said Rick Blatstein of OTG Management Inc.

Its a stark contrast from the airports infamous reputation. In 2014, then-Vice President Joe Biden referred to LaGuardia as a third world airport and, in a rare point of agreement, then-candidate Donald Trump echoed Biden in 2016.

"Our airports are like from a third world country," Trump said during a presidential debate, referring to LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports.

The new terminal is part of a series of improvements for LaGuardia. Back in January, the renovation of Terminal B was completed. And all of the work at the airport is set to be finished by year end 2024. Two years ahead of schedule.

Terminal C will open to the public on Saturday, June 4, with some of the gates up and running. The rest will open gradually.
