RALEIGH — Thousands of people across the country, including 3,000 in North Carolina are currently on the waiting list for an organ transplant. For many people, it can mean the difference between life and death, which is why it's so important for anyone able to register.

Donate Life NC reached its 5 millionth registered organ donor in November of 2017, but that number still needs to grow. So they're holding a very special event to bring together donors, survivors, family members and supporters.

The Donate life NC Hero Run, sponsored by Johnson Health, is taking place on March 24, 2018 at Portofino in Clayton. Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair sat down with a member of Donate Life NC, and an organ transplant recipient for more on what the special day means to them.

Melisa Blackmon says the non-profit is hard at work raising awareness and funding to help save lives. If you would like to register visit their website.

They’ve also joined with Assistant Golf Pro and liver transplant recipient Mo Gesualdi, for another event, the Just Say Mo Donate Life NC Golf Fore Charity OutingFind registration here
