RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thousands of educators will be rallying in Raleigh Wednesday, and officials are outlining traffic plans for the huge event.

The City of Raleigh is asking for those entering the city to do so from the south side (I-40E to Hammond Road to S. Wilmington Street). This will then put them in the area of four different parking decks. They say this will help alleviate some congestion for those coming from the north end (I-40E to Wade Avenue and Capital Boulevard).

Raleigh police advise the following:

  • Employees who work downtown should leave for work early and expect heavy traffic, delays, and detours
  • From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jones Street will be closed between Salisbury and Wilmington Streets
  • From 9:50 a.m. to 12 p.m., Edenton, Morgan, and South Streets between Salisbury and Wilmington Streets will be closed; Fayetteville Street between Morgan and Lenoir will be closed
  • For parking, from I-40 take the Hammond Road exit to Martin Luther King Boulevard, then to South Wilmington Street. Parking decks for the march are located off of South Wilmington Street at Davie, Martin, Hargett, and Morgan Streets.
