DURHAM, N.C. -- A bullet hit a school bus carrying students on Friday afternoon, injuring the bus driver.

  • Approximately 15 students were on board
  • The bus was carrying students from Shephard Middle School
  • No students were hurt, but the bus driver was

The incident happened around 3 p.m. at the intersection of North Hardee Street and Cheek Road in Durham, just off of U.S. 70.

“A stray bullet hit the bus and we have no indication whatsoever that the bus was targeted or anything like that so we are just utterly grateful that all the kids are fine," Chip Sudderth with Durham Public Schools said.

There were approximately 15 students from Shephard Middle School on the bus at the time, but none were hurt.

“The bus driver told us like everyone get down cause he got hit by glass.” sixth grader Anthony Ettson said.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

There is no word on a suspect yet.
