RALEIGH, N.C. – Charges have been dropped against a man who says he was brutally beaten by law officers while he was unarmed and crossing a Raleigh street.

  • Kyron Hinton claims he was beaten April 4.
  • Hinton was charged with three misdemeanors.
  • The SBI is investigating.

Last month, 29-year-old Kyron Dwain Hinton told Spectrum News that he suffered a fractured eye socket, a broken nose, and was bitten more than 20 times by a K9 during an April 4 encounter with Raleigh police officers and Wake County sheriff's deputies.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office charged Hinton with three misdemeanors including resisting a public officer, but those charges have now been dropped according to an advocate for Hinton.

During a press conference Tuesday, Hinton expressed gratitude towards the DA for dropping the charges, though he nor the advocates with him were told exactly why they were dropped.

He says he can't work at the moment because his eye is still fractured.

The State Bureau of Investigation is still probing the incident.
