Tuesday’s "Know Your Public Utilities Rights" forum aimed to help local utility customers during the pandemic.

The virtual presentation, which was hosted by the Rochester’s People Climate Coalition and the Public Utility Law Project of New York, covered topics like getting, restoring and retaining service, and averting shut offs.

Gas and electric companies like Rochester Gas & Electric and NYSEG are still mandated by the governor to not shut services off for those who can’t pay due to the pandemic.

These coalitions want you to know that you are protected under the Home Energy Fair Practices Act.
