A decomposing body was allegedly found in the garage of the Tomaszewski Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Batavia for roughly nine months, according to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

The new allegation is part of the ongoing investigation into the funeral home. The Genesee County Sheriff has already charged the funeral home director, Michael Tomaszewski, with fraud and grand larceny charges.

He’s accused of taking money from customers for pre-funeral planning, but police say Tomaszewski then failed to put the money into accounts and trusts, which is what he’s legally required to do.

He allegedly stole more than $500,000 from victims. An investigation into why the body was left in the funeral home for months is ongoing.
