ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrested the pregnant inmate who escaped from Strong Memorial Hospital on Monday.

Aliyah Burden, 19, was apprehended outside of a parking garage.

Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said the investigation into how she slipped out of custody is underway.

She was in a soft ankle restraint hooked to a bed, when she used a tactic to distract the deputy on duty.

”She asked the deputy to do her a favor and stay in the room. She asked her to turn around for a second. She was already out of her restraints and apparently she bolted as soon as the deputy turned her back,” said Baxter.

At least 80 members of law enforcement helped search for Burden.

“We’ll look at our restraints, if they were used appropriately. We’ll look at the deputy, what her actions were. Did she take all of the proper protocols? Was she in the right place at the right time or was there an error there, a human error? And then we’ll make corrective actions," added Baxter.

Burden is now charged with a felony on top of the larceny charge she was previously arrested for while on probation.
