RALEIGH, N.C. -- A new election for the 9th District Congressional seat is on the way, and a large question remains about who will be on the ballot.

  • Dan McCready will be running again
  • Mark Harris is mulling over the possibility of running again
  • Dan Berry and Kenny Smith are possibly running

On Thursday, Republican candidate Mark Harris called for a new election due to allegations of election fraud, and the state board agreed.

As for who will be running in that new election, Democratic candidate Dan McCready is for certain one of the candidates.

As for Mark Harris, there is still a question on whether or not he will run. He said during the hearing that he is recovering from two recent strokes. He is mulling over the possibility of running again.

However, Harris and McCready aren’t alone.

Union County GOP Chair Dan Berry ran for the seat in 2012 and is considering another go. Former Charlotte City Council member Kenny Smith's name has been tossed around as a possible contender. Former Union County state senator Tommy Tucker could also run.

As for those likely not running, former Republican representative for the 9th District Robert Pittenger as well as former Republican Gov. Pat McCrory had both said before this week's hearing, they are not considering a run.
