GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Members of the Greensboro branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP, spoke in support of the proposed Guilford County schools policy that allows the appeal of short-term suspensions Monday morning.

  • Member of NAACP, Dr. Frank Thomas, said this is a not a significant change because long term suspension already has a formal appeals process
  • However, some Guilford County schools parents said this policy change will make the schools less safe
  • The GCS School Board is going to vote on the current student discipline policy

Member of NAACP, Dr. Frank Thomas, said this is a not a significant change because long term suspension already has a formal appeals process.                 

“They will get a long term suspension if they are deemed to be dangerous, disruptive, or destructive to the education of other students. This is a small thing,” said Dr. Thomas.

However, some Guilford County schools parents said this policy change will make the schools less safe.

The GCS School Board is going to vote on the current student discipline policy at their next meeting on Tuesday at 6 P.M.
