  • Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight hopes to return next May after the pandemic forced them to cancel both of this year's trips
  • The group held a Chiavetta's chicken fundraiser to bring in funds for 2021
  • Judy Kirkwood, a widow of a Korean War veteran, spoke with Spectrum News about what the group means to her

The group typically sends local veterans to Washington, D.C. twice a year. The pandemic led to the cancelations of both trips in 2020 since the veterans are in their 80s and 90s.

Judy Kirkwood, a volunteer and widow of a Korean War veteran, told Spectrum News that this is an important cause for her.

"The satisfaction you get when you see the look on the veterans’ faces is amazing," she said. "They’re so grateful, and most of them are very humble. They don’t believe they deserve the honor of a flight, they don’t deserve the kudos that they receive. But each and every one of them, in their own way, served this country and they deserve all the credit and all the accolades that they get."

Judy's father was also an Army veteran, while her grandson served in the Navy.
