HAMLIN, N.Y. —  Thousands of community members across the state were out and about Saturday celebrating I Love My Park Day.

It's the state's 11th annual event that is held on the first Saturday in May, in an effort to attract community-wide help in beautifying and cleaning up some of the 165 state's parks, historic sites and public lands.

Volunteers assisted in planting trees, restoring trails, removing invasive species and improvement projects.

About 60 volunteers showed up at Hamlin Beach State Park to get it ready for peak season.

"It's just awesome to have the volunteers come out to help state parks," said Hamlin Beach State Park director Kate Gross. "Introducing people to state parks. Having them come out and enjoy the outdoors the water the beach. Just having everyone here and helping out. Showing their volunteerism. And being able to take part in making our state parks just a little bit better."

Volunteers participated in three projects which included beach cleanup, shelter 3 spruce up as well as the flower bed in the teardrop garden.
