LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Albert Pruitt was born in Brevard, North Carolina and moved to Catawba County when he was 14 years old.

Retired from cotton mill work, Pruitt lives with his girlfriend, Pam Gibson, in Lincoln County.

Pruitt is a singer, guitar player, tap dancer, and harmonica player.

He says he has never voted in his life and never registered to vote.

This year, he says he felt the need to vote.

So Pruitt and Gibson registered and voted early.

The first-time voters helped fuel the record number of voter turnout in North Carolina.

According to the State Board of Elections, 5.49 million ballots were cast, a 74.6% voter turnout.

In 2016, voter turnout was 69%.

Pruitt says he's nervous about the presidential results, but says he has his faith.

"It will be the Lord's will and whatever happens is going to happen, it's going to be up to the Lord who gets in there," Pruitt says.
