LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The Los Angeles International Airport continues to see an increase in cargo operations in 2022, with officials announcing Monday that the airport set another single-month record for trade by value in June.

The airport totaled $14.9 billion in global imports and exports in June — $8.86 billion in imports and $6.07 billion in exports. That marked a nearly 23% increase over last June and a 17% increase over May.

“The continuation of record-setting cargo operations at LAX highlights our airport’s critical role in the global supply chain,” said Justin Erbacci, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports. “LAX is one of the busiest ports in the nation, and our long-term cargo modernization plan will ensure that we have the infrastructure and modern facilities needed to continue in this role for decades to come.”

Through June, LAX conducted $78.7 billion in trade this year, ranking it eighth among ports of entry in the United States and third among airports.

Trade is up 22% compared to the same point last year, at $30.9 billion. Imports are up nearly 30% at $47.8 billion, while exports increased by 11%.

So far this year, computer chips are the most valuable export at LAX at over $4 billion. That’s nearly twice as high as the second most valuable export, civilian aircraft parts ($2.13 billion).

Computers are the most valuable import this year, valued at $6.9 billion, followed by cellphones at $5.5 billion.
