SAN ANTONIO — Cara House isn't playing around when it comes to the Houston Astros. From memorabilia to superstitions, she's proud to call herself a lifelong Astros fan.

  • Astros are going to the World Series
  • Game 1 is Tusday in Houston
  • Playing the Washington Nationals

"Growing up my dad was a police officer and worked every home game in the Astrodome. So, I went to about half the games with him and grew up walking the halls of the dome," she said.

She's not alone. As the team worked its way through the American League playoffs, House and other Astros fans have been gathering at Slackers on West Rector Street in San Antonio for watch parties when their favorite baseball team plays.

"Depends on the night, but we'll have 20, 30 people here on a good night, but now that it's the World Series, we'll probably get even more," said House.

The atmosphere is fun, but House says it can get tense too. Tense enough that those old baseball superstitions come in to play.

"I have to stand right here when the game starts. I have my lucky shoes that I have to wear. If we start getting behind, or we have to get a hit, I have everybody switch spots.  Lots of different ones," she said.

Game one of the World Series between the Astros and the Washington Nationals is Tuesday night in Houston.
