CHARLOTTE— An east Charlotte woma was shot and killed by a police officer responding to a call for a domestic dispute.

Police say 20-year-old Janisha Fonville was shot by officer Anthony Holzhauer during a domestic violence call.

Officers responded to the 2700 block of Bellefonte Drive shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a domestic violence call involving two women.

When officers entered the apartment, authorities say Janisha Fonville, 20, had a knife and confronted them. After ordering her multiple times to drop the knife, police say she lunged toward Offc. Holzhauer, who then shot her.

Chief Rodney Monroe of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said immediately after firing the shots Holzhauer ran to his patrol car to get his medical kit and tried to help Fonville. She was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

This was not the first time Holzhauer has used deadly force.

In July 2012 he shot and killed a robbery suspect on Crestview Drive. The District Attorney cleared him of all charges saying the use of deadly force was justified.

Then in September 2013, Holzhauer and another officer were involved in a shootout with three suspects on North Tryon Street, but no one was ever hit.

Chief Monroe said it is unusual for an officer to be involved in this many shootings, let alone deadly incidents.
