SAN ANTONIO -- Charline McCombs, who along with her husband Red McCombs once owned the San Antonio Spurs, has died at age 91.

The news was delivered by Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich Thursday.

The McCombs helped to move the Spurs to San Antonio from Dallas following the 1972-73 season.

 

 

The McCombs also formerly owned the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Vikings.

Red McCombs founded the Red McCombs Automotive Group in San Antonio. The McCombs School of

Business at the University of Texas at Austin is named for the couple.

Red and Charline McCombs Field is the home of the UT women’s softball team. It was opened in 1998.

The McCombs were married in 1950.
