WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Another student in the Triad is now facing charges after bringing a gun to school Thursday.

The Winston-Salem Police Department says the loaded gun was found at R.J. Reynolds High School after officials received an anonymous tip. The student was taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and is charged with bringing a weapon on school grounds.

The student will also face an automatic 365-day suspension. The high school is located just minutes away from Mount Tabor High School where a student was shot and killed last month.

There have been several other incidents of guns being brought to Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools in recent weeks. Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough addressed the issue in a statement.

“This seems to be the weekly narrative. We must create a plan with urgency to address the gun violence because our children and the future are depending on our response,” he said.
